Man receives life sentence for lewd conduct with a minor - Silver Valley News
On Monday, Shoshone County District Judge Scott Wayman sentenced a Spokane man to a unified life sentence after pleading guilty to Lewd Conduct with a Minor and Forcible Penetration with a Foreign Object.
According to a press release, an 8-year-old boy came forward in May of 2019 after being sexually abused during a Memorial Day weekend camping trip in Shoshone County.
49-year-old William Gilman, of Spokane, pleaded guilty to those charges on January 6th, 2020.
Gilman faced the 8-year-old during his sentence. The boy stood before Gilman and said, “I am not afraid of you".
The Spokane man, who already plead guilty, denied his culpability for the crimes and asked for probation or a period of retained jurisdiction.
Judge Wayman denied and said a unified life sentence was necessary in order to ensure society was protected. “These laws are meant to protect children".
Afterward, Prosecuting Attorney Keisha Oxendine said in a press release, "Gilman will no longer be able to hurt any other child because one boy, at the age of 8 years old, found his voice and courageously came forward to ensure this didn’t happen to anyone else".
The press release says there have been prior allegations of Gilman assaulting other children throughout jurisdictions in both Idaho and Washington.
Gilman will likely also face charges in Spokane County.
